What We Believe

At CSA, we do not ask you to check your questions at the door or adopt a fixed set of answers. We are a community built on the conviction that spiritual truth is available to everyone, that all paths toward love and awareness have value, and that each person carries within them an innate capacity for growth, healing, and wholeness.

Our teaching is rooted in the Science of Mind, a practical spiritual philosophy that invites you to think deeply, live intentionally, and trust the wisdom already within you.

Part of a Global Community

CSA is affiliated with Centers for Spiritual Living (CSL), a global network of more than 400 New Thought spiritual communities in 30 countries.

CSL was founded on the teachings of Dr. Ernest Holmes and shares our commitment to inclusive, affirmative, spiritually engaged community.

Our affiliation with CSL connects us to a broader family of seekers and teachers while allowing us to remain fully ourselves here in West Sacramento.

The Science of Mind
A Philosophy, Not a Doctrine

The Science of Mind was developed in the early 20th century by Dr. Ernest Holmes, a spiritual teacher and philosopher who spent his life drawing out the common threads running through the world's great religious and wisdom traditions. What he found was a shared truth: that the universe is spiritual in nature, that there is one underlying Power present in all of life, and that our thoughts and beliefs actively shape our experience of the world.

At CSA, this philosophy is the foundation of everything we teach — not as a creed to recite, but as a practical way of understanding and living life.

Many Paths, One Truth

CSA is an interfaith community, which means we do not believe any single religion holds a monopoly on spiritual truth. Dr. Holmes described himself as "open at the top" — always ready to receive wisdom wherever it came from. That spirit defines us.

We draw from the Bible, the Tao Te Ching, Buddhist teachings, Indigenous wisdom, quantum physics, and the lived experiences of our community members. We welcome people who come from a Christian background, people who have left organized religion, people who have never had one, and everyone in between.

You do not need to agree with everything we teach. You just need to be willing to seek.

In Short, We Believe:
  • God is not separate from us. The divine is within, around, and expressed through all life.
  • Every person is whole, worthy, and loved exactly as they are.
  • Our thoughts and beliefs are creative. Changing our minds can change our lives.
  • All spiritual paths that lead toward love and awareness are worthy of respect.
  • Community, prayer, and service are among the most powerful spiritual practices available to us.
  • Healing — of the body, heart, and mind — is always possible.
